There are many mental illnesses that are affecting people
All over the world. A study shows that most of the world’s population is affected by mental illness. Though the degree to which they are affected will vary between each person. In many people, we can’t even find the trace of the illness. Let us see some of the mental illnesses that people are affected with commonly.
They respond to certain situations with fear or dread. This also includes certain phobias. They show physical response such as sweating, rapid heartbeat, etc. They cannot control their fear and it will be seen abruptly about
In this case, the person affected gets extremely sad or extremely happy. This may fluctuate or one mood pertains for long periods. Depression, bipolar disorder and cyclothymic disorder are some types.
Schizophrenia is an example of this. In this illness, people see hallucinations. They hear voices and see things that are not real. These persons think something as true even if evidences point otherwise.
These involve extreme emotions. When affected by this disorder, people either overeat or refrain from eating anything. They think of themselves as being fat while in reality, they would be thin.Pyromania (starting fires), kleptomania (stealing) are some examples
Impulse control and addiction disorder
These people become addicted to some things like alcohol, drugs, gambling, etc. They cannot resist urges. They would do something even if it would be harmful to them.
These people have inflexible personality. They have troubled relationships. Their behavior will be different from what the society expects of them.
Obsessive –compulsive disorder
They have obsessive thoughts because of which they want to do certain things. Like washing hands often thinking it has germs.
Post-traumatic stress disorder
When people are affected by natural disasters, war, rape cases, etc. they get the PTSD. It also happens when someone dies suddenly. These people get emotionally numb.
Stress response syndrome
It generally occurs from 3 months and last up to six months after some major event has happened. It is generally that the person generates some emotional response to some problems like natural disaster, sudden death of loved one, etc.
This happens due to accidents, traumatic events or stress. They suffer changes in memory, their identity and other things. This includes Split personality disorder.
They complain about some physical problem or mental problem to create sympathy.

All these disorders affect individuals and if left untreated, they might calm their lives. Mental illness is not only found in adults but in children also. Many children are also affected by the mental disorders.Many people avoid going to doctors for their mental illness as they might be insulted due to that. Another reason is that there is not much insurance cover for mental illness. The insurance companies should make it compulsory to add mental problems also to their list as it is affecting many people. It is also the major reason of death in many cases. That makes it necessary for insurance coverage.
Also in offices, schools, colleges, etc. there should be a counsellor who can listen to you and give their idea or counselling for the same. This will help in finding the mentally affected persons earlier and we can give them the required treatments. For these posts, a person who has been certified by medical centers should be put and not just anyone.
These persons should talk to people and share their feelings. They should indulge in some activity that they are interested. Exercise, painting, playing, etc. are very good relaxing techniques for the mind which you should practice. When the mind is relaxed, the stress, depression, etc. will vanish.As many people are affected by this, it is necessary to keep campaigns, camps, etc. to eradicate suicide. These campaigns should be done in schools and colleges first. Much awareness must be created in people about mental illness. With all these illnesses and many more to come, it is always good to be preventative. Keeping that in mind steps should be taken by both the government and other organizations to help the people in distress.
